Xbox 360 flaw makes machine hackable

A flaw in the Xbox 360 DVD firmware could allow the forces of darkness in the hacking world to install custom firmware in the machine.

According to Xboxic, here, the hack has been found by a bloke who goes by the handle ‘TheSpecialist’ and has found a few firmware hacks before.

Mr TheSpecialist said that the hack enables a person to gain full control of what the DVD will accept and would mean that the drive could gain the capability to boot backups of original game DVDs.

The goal is getting a 360 to do a backup booting and according to Mr TheSpecialist a dark and sinister hacker Illuminati is close to doing this.

Wouldn't surprise me, if this was leaked by MS to get all those pirates to purchase machines, maybe they're making the hack, people can't take it online, so they'd need two xbox's one for copies and one for live games, ingenius Bill.

They lose money on every system sold so getting someone to buy two copies of the system means nothing except bigger losses for MS.

My guess is the online hardware/firmware check is nothing but a hash, so even that could eventually be spoofed with enough work...or a dual boot EEPROM perhaps like some of the more advanced XBox mod chips from the last gen machine

I hate online so this sounds right up my alley. I can play online for free with my pc, I will only buy a 360 for Lan's and single player.
