Pentium D 820 vs. Athlon64 X2 4400+ Overclocking @ TechSpot
For the past few months I have been considering the idea of building a dual-core system, primarily for gaming. Although dual-core processors have not shown any real benefits over single-core processors in gaming applications, this should change in the near future. As drivers and games become better optimized to use multiple cores, the huge improvements we are all waiting for should follow.

<~ still does
They've got a damn good price on the intel dual core chip there, but i couldn't get it that cheap.... the dual core amd however i can get cheap, but not that cheap either. Problem is, the dual core 939 amd chip works in a wide range of motherboards giving massive amounts of choices. Unfortuneatly, it's not nearly the choices you get with the intel boards... imo though, if they woulda put up a adove photoshop test... the intel would have shown a hell of alot better result then amd (x2's are only loaded 50% under that test oddly)..... However, many other tests REALLY lean towards the amd side..

the intel dual core cpus are pretty much cheaper across the board. not sure what you mean about mb choice. you have intel, nv, ati based mbs available. what more could you want?
found a d820 for $160 - http://www.starmicro.net/detail.aspx?ID=592 their average price seems to be around $200. so they were actually high on their price.

& for $15 cheaper than the cheapest 4400+ i could find(my choice for amd cpu
) you can get this 3.4 dual pressler - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ATT=19-116-239this would be a good oc comparison imo.

how far from the border do you live? & if it is fairly close do you have any friends on the us side?
do you have any friends at all? ![]() the price difference should still be similar, unfortunately you pay more.
