Sony continues to differentiate VAIO brand from price-performance notebooks

Kunimasa Suzuki, head of Sony's VAIO business worldwide, stated that the VAIO brand will continue to target the mid-range and high-end notebook markets and differentiate from sub-US$1,000 models. As an expansion in the desktop replacement market spurs notebook demand, sales of Sony’s VAIO-branded notebooks is climbing without being squeezed by price-performance models, according to Suzuki.

Sony yesterday launched its VAIO SZ series, which feature Intel’s Core Duo processors and DDR2 memory, in Taiwan. The new dual-core models will be available on April 21, with a suggested price ranging between NT$54,800-74,800 (US$1,687-2,303). The SZ line features a carbon-fiber case and widescreen displays based on white LED technology, in addition to the new Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology.
