System Specs

And the immediate result of that will be?

So far, the 9x platform has been unflustered by many of the vulnerabilities sufferred by the NT core, often because it lacks the same development of the potentially vulnerable component.

I doubt very much that any 98-ME hangouts will suddenly switch... anyone still running a 9x system (and I'm sure a friend is still running 95), tends to fit in one of a few categories:

1. Doesn't care about upgrading, been using the same software and system for ages, and will grudgingly buy a cheap replacement when it breaks. Will probably resent any changes, set Windows to look like the previous version, and try to use the old software versions if they run, set every backward compatibility option, and begrudge learning new software.

2. Can't afford to upgrade, or doesn't consider it worth the money, quite likely using a "hand me down" PC.

3. Has software that will not run on a newer OS/hardware, and replacement or migration is impossible or unreasonably expensive.

4. The final class of stayback, is the level skipper - they probably skipped 95 and went to 98SE or ME, and then plan to wait it out untill the time comes for a new system with Vista.

5. The Linux user in waiting, though saying "my next system will be Linux" and actually doing it are two different things.
