The portable digital audio player (aka the MP3 player) has come along way since its inception. Back in the day, most MP3 players were equipped with either a paltry amount of flash memory (less than 64MB) or they relied on CD media that would frequently skip when jarred. Since then, most modern MP3 players have replaced the "old guard" with considerably larger storage sizes utilizing sizable flash memory or micro hard drives.
In the spirit of affordability and high functionality, we selected a number of flash memory based Digital Audio Players (aka. Flash DAPs) with 512MB of memory, all under $135US. We tested them, noted their construction and sound qualities. Then we conclude with a "compare and contrast" to see which player offers the best bang for your buck (and yes, we included the iPod Shuffle...)
