Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard Review @ BRnR
Games are becoming more powerful and realistic in their ability to allow the player to do and experience more. As a result, GPUs and processors aren't the only things being pushed to the limit. The latest generation of PC games require an increasing number of keystrokes to play, presenting a real challenge to both gamers and keyboard designers alike. Logitech has stepped up to that challenge with the first gaming keyboard featuring an adjustable backlit LCD display for critical, in-game information, unprecedented programmability and style—the Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard.

My bro bought one of these. It's a pretty nice keyboard. The keys are nice and quiet while you're typing.
The illumination is sweet, but it's hard to see the key labels at all with the backlight off in a bright or dark situation....you'll set it to high and leave it. While in BIOS, the keyboard doesn't light up, and you have to look real hard to see the keys. Not really a problem for me, but some may have issues with that, so I thought I'd mention it. If you boot something through the 3.5 at start up, this keyboard won't work, but it WILL let you navigate through BIOS (without the backlight). I understand that some motherboards are better about this than others. We just keep an old basic ps2 keyboard lying around for such an occasion. (BIOS updates...) There's a program I found called LCDStudio that lets you create uses for the LCD screen. I downloaded one (I couldn't program a .bat file, let alone a profile for the LCD ) that shows HD space (for up to 3 HD's), CPU/RAM usage, upload/download speeds(in KB/s), Res & refresh, the current time and total uptime. All in one screen. Pretty nice. It's update rate is a little slow, but it functions pretty well.I saw other profiles that said they would measure CPU temps and fan speeds, but we couldn't seem to get them to work.... You can leave a bunch of LCD goodies running and just press a button to switch between screens, or select the various screens through a menu. The keyboard is about 3-4 inches wider than a standard keyboard, so be prepared for that. I personally would have much preferred that those 18 G keys just weren't there, it's odd for the escape button to be so far in from the side of the keyboard...takes some gettin' used to. I'd have been perfectly happy with a Standard keyboard layout with some multimedia functions and the LCD screen. The G keys, to me, are unecessary bulk. But I'm not an FPS/RTS fan, so my view may be a little biased in that respect. All in all though, it's pretty sweet. We'll see about that paint-peeling problem in the future. ![]() We're thinking about getting another one. The backlight keys and the LCD are really nice. |
