GeForceFX Reborn ?

This new GFFX cooling system does not run in 2D operation, making it quieter than any other 3D cards in this current generation while not being used in a gaming capacity. When the GFFX Ultra is utilized in a 3D application, the fan system spins up and is still about as loud as it was before. Nvidia reports it to be around 5dBa quieter.

article over at hardocp

5db quieter? so down to 65db? mmmm

What is Kyle on about? We don't buy nVidia made cards, but we do buy Gainward:

"Gainward FX PowerPack! Series

Model Ultra/1000 Plus
“Golden Sample”

GPU
GeForce FX 5800 Ultra

500 MHz Plus
GeForce FX 5800

Low Noise Cooling
Yes, max 7db

Memory
128MB DDR2

1GHz Plus
128MB DDR2

Recommended Price
€ 649"

AND:

"Owing to Gainward’s advanced R&D skills the maximum noise is reduced to only 7db, the same as a human heartbeat. Competetive products maximum noise levels can be rated as high as 70db the same level as a domestic vacuum cleaner. "

After you take price into consideration the only FX worth buying has the numbers "9500" or "9700" in it!

I'd tend to agree with that at tyhe present time, but I'm sure Alby, Asus, MSI, Abit, & others will use their 'creative forces' on the cards too. Look at what they did w/GF4 Ti cards esp. the Ti4200's. I wouldn't be surprised if one (or more) of them makes a card that supports the flip-chip GFFX GPU & isn't even close to 'reference' design.

nVidia has forced the hand of the retail card makers > if they wanna sell GFFX cards: they are gonna have to fix 'em. Gainward has met the 'noise' challenge & others will to, IMHO.

I can hardly wait for an Asus GFFX to show up. If their reputation preceeds them: it'll cook w/o the noise. Rumor is MSI is looking @ water cooling & Akasa has some thoughts on aftermarket coolers already. TT, TR, CoolerMaster & others will too: all a matter of time.
