Bethesda responds to Oblivion rerating

Read More / Source: GameSpot
___________
Earlier today, the Entertainment Software Ratings Board announced that it had rerated The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the PC and Xbox 360 as M for Mature. The ESRB said the game's developer, Bethesda Softworks, had failed to properly report the game's objectionable content when it submitted the game for rating.

Bethesda has now responded to the situation, issuing the following statement:

The ESRB has revoked their Teen rating for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the PC and the Xbox 360 and has assigned the game a new rating of Mature. The ESRB reports that this is due to content in the game that was not fully disclosed when rating the game initially. Bethesda, not its co-publisher, developed the game, handled the ratings application before the ESRB, and stands behind it...

Good response by Bethesda. Frankly, I don't care what the ESRB rates games, it doesn't affect me at all.

MSX is on a distinguished road

What pisses me off is that the ESRB is giving a rating on a game based on what modders do. The ESRB needs to be dissolved and reorganized.

I cant wait till the 'nude patch' for Barbie's fun time playhouse. It'd be a perfect example of how ludicrous the board has become.

It really is rediculous they changed the rating (not that it affects me, or most for that matter). the ESRB is really a joke, pretty harmless, only there to make the bleeding hearts quiet. I do think it is strange they based a rating on what the modders do (and the Barbie idea would be helarious and make a point). The only think I have against the ESRB being dissolved is that they may be replaced by a board that is actually government based and has some sort of power over the actual content in a game.

Long like the ESRB!
