Logitech G25 Racing Wheel Delivers Ultimate PC Gaming Experience

Source: Logitech
___________
LOS ANGELES — May 9, 2006 — Today at the Electronic Entertainment Exposition (E3), Logitech (SWX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) unveiled its most advanced gaming wheel ever, the Logitech® G25 Racing Wheel, enabling people to bring the most lifelike racing experience into the home. But amateurs beware: The limited-edition G25 wheel´s uncanny realism could lead to moments of extreme exhilaration and fear.

I personally think I see a couple small problems.. They took all the buttons off the wheel.. in virtual racing, they are a must.. The more the better- the DFP even has a HAT switch on the wheel and they manage to put all those buttons on there without getting in the way.

The Logitech Driving Force Pro has plenty of raw power.. too much really at times.. but not enough speed, and that is a problem at times.
(EDIT- see post #7, I can say that is NOT a problem with this wheel- it's very fast!)

Logitech always deliver quality for an amazing price. It would cost a person many times more money to try to come close to the features this wheel will have if the pieces were bought separately. It looks like a great day for sim racers around the world.

Some more pics I found..

Also I have seen a short video of the thing turning at full speed.. it is like 3 times faster than the Logitech Driving Force Pro.. It looks like this wheel has it all.. those pedals are extremely high quality. The internals of the wheel look very well thought out. I can't wait to try this one out with rFactor, Live For Speed S2, Richard Burns Rally, and GTR 2 among other race sims coming out. This thing is the real deal.

One of the coolest features of the wheel below.

ANTI BACKLASH GEARS!!!
Genius!

Quote:
In certain applications (for example, a radio tuning dial where one may make precise tuning movements both forward and backwards) backlash is an undesirable characteristic and should be minimized. Specialized gear designs allow this. One of the more-common designs splits the gear into two gears, each half the thickness of the original. One half of the gear is fixed to its shaft while the other half of the gear is allowed to turn on the shaft, but pre-loaded in rotation by small coil springs that rotate the free gear relative to the fixed gear. In this way, the spring tension rotates the free gear until all of the backlash in the system has been taken out; the teeth of the fixed gear press against one side of the teeth of the pinion while the teeth of the free gear press against the other side of the teeth on the pinion.

Loads smaller than the force of the springs do not compress the springs and with no gaps between the teeth to be taken up, backlash is eliminated

EDIT-

- LOL -
13,295 views for this thread.. (as of Oct 9th) and it comes up very high on the list when you type in Logitech G25 in google.
I wonder if it is just because of my personal search records it does that on google or does it do that for everyone when they type in "Logitech G25" in Google w/o quotes?

Logitech is hasn't prereleased the wheel to many sites or magazines yet so information is scarce You have been a gold mine for many, I'm sure

I hope I may soon be able to add to your information

Yeah it is kind of a slow release .. people all over the world getting it at different times.

I need to wait a while to buy it, just don't have the fundage right now, but hopefully soon! I also want to see if it comes down in price at all, I think it might get down to around 200 USD or so in a couple months. So even if I had extra 270 bucks or so to blow this second, I would still wait to see what happens with the price when more places have them available.

You can get one at Dell right now for instance..
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=A0739532

and a lot of other places have had them in stock, then sold out, etc.. Pretty soon I think lots more places will have plenty of them.

Almost 14,000 views for this thread! woot.

Well, since people are coming here for info..

Another picture - this one is of the optical sensor in the wheel, and some info about it.

The reason why this is done instead of attaching it to the main shaft is that it gives you MANY more counts per wheel revolution with which to determine direction of turn and wheel orientation, which results in much finer resolution for input. The slotted disc only has about 30 slots in it, and if it were 1:1 disc/wheel turn you'd get very sloppy input. Attaching the disc to the motor, which spins many times per wheel revolution, results in significantly more accurate control.

Potentiometers are attached to the main shaft for, essentially, the opposite reason..

Couple this with the anti-backlash drive and this system provides very high precision.
(Goo and mcman are Logitech employees I believe)

Dell has them in stock here in the US.. And I heard Fry's does. But there was an initial release, then they dried up. Some people in Europe are having a real hard time getting one though, they never even got the first round of them.

Hi Guys,

I am a noobie. Amazing forum. Just one question for the G25 users, I have heard that the clutch has a switch instead of a pot, is this true?

Thanks.
