Intel's Core Duo meets the desktop @ bit-tech

___________
What's faster than an AMD Athlon FX-60? Well, an Intel Core Duo overclocked on a fantastic AOpen board based on the 975X chipset. We get to grips with Intel's portable processing powerhouse in a desktop board and contemplate - is this a sign of things to come?

Intel has hit on something really good for the first time in a long time - and it's exciting!

It's hard to get excited about these Core Duo's /w Conroe coming up. Wish I could pre-order my setup.

Indeed, that's what's exciting - the Core Duo is just the appetizer. Then AMD comes on, and DDR2 speeds ramp up, perpendicular hard drive recording, and more - all in the next six months...

tell me about it! i just ordered all my parts for my new comp & had to settle for a 940. couldnt wait another 2-3 months because my wife would have used the $$ elsewhere. had a VERY narrow window of opportunity here
still when my 940 starts 'slowing' down in another year or so i will really have something to look forward to as the perf will be even better as will the prices.
to be truthful(cant let my wife know this) if i can get that 940 to 4.0 & with the ram & fluid cooling setup i got, & from what i have been hearing it should not be a problem, i cant see anything slowing that 940 down for at least 2 yrs.
still want the conroe!!!

I'm still working with an 820 and besides the fact it was dubbed the immitation-dual core, it still does everything I need it to do. Sometimes you just have to shut out the world's stupidity and use what works for you.
