Dell switch dents Intel shares

Intel shares fell to a three-year low Friday after leading PC maker Dell said it would begin using chips from smaller rival Advanced Micro Devices, whose shares surged.

Dell said that for the first time in more than two decades, Intel will no longer be its sole provider of computer microprocessors, the brains that run computers.

It's a big coup for AMD. Until the company came out with its Athlon and Opteron processors, it had been largely regarded as a maker of cheaper, lower-performing Intel-clone chips.

In extended-session trading, shares of Dell rose 82 cents, or 3.4 percent, to $24.77 and AMD stock jumped $3.93, or nearly 13 percent, to $35.28 after Dell disclosed the deal as part of its first-quarter earnings report. Intel shed 92 cents, or nearly 5 percent, to $17.73.

I personaly think this is great news.
Finaly some dell servers will auctaly have quality CPU's in them.
Not just glorafied heaters.

If you react to single-day stock changes, you're an absolute fool therefore your numbers mean little right now.

I don't care one way or the other about this being good or bad - I see it like many others do - a compromise.
