Dual Mode DSL Endpoint

Paradyne Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:PDYN), a leading provider of broadband voice, data and video network access solutions, recently announced the availability of the world's first dual mode DSL endpoint capable of supporting either standards based ADSL or Paradyne's ReachDSL(TM) technology.

The 6381ADSL/R(TM) modem works with existing ADSL and ReachDSL 2.2 DSLAM deployments, resulting in significant reduction in inventory, installation, and provisioning costs for the service provider. The 6381 covers all deployment scenarios, improving the time to market, end-user satisfaction and improving market penetration for the service provider.

"This endpoint significantly reduces the uncertainties and costs associated with deploying broadband services," stated William Cobb, Paradyne Vice President, Marketing and Product Management. "The 6381 allows service providers to offer broadband DSL to their entire addressable market - regardless of line condition, interference, wiring issues or loop length."

"It is essential that the technologies and products we deploy today support our objectives to expand our market footprint rapidly," said David Boyd, CIO, AMA/TechTel Communications. "The 6381 ADSL/R modem will streamline our deployments by allowing us to use a single CPE. Lower inventories and minimal provisioning and installations will have a huge impact in operational savings."

Paradyne's 6381ADSL/R modem automatically detects the DSL technology being used and switches to the correct DSL operating mode. The industry leading bridging and routing functionality found in the 6381 ADSL/R modem defaults to bridged mode so that no configuration of the CPE is required for basic operation. If desired, additional features such as firewall, NAPT, PPPoE, and PPPoA can be turned on to allow the 6381 ADSL/R modem to operate seamlessly within the service providers network while also enabling value added services. PPPoE and PPPoA software clients are embedded in the modem to provide seamless installation experience on customer's personal computers and eliminating compatibility issues with the various PC operating systems.

The 6381 ADSL/R modem will be available at the end of February 2003 and will be demonstrated at Paradyne's booth #422 at the NTCA Annual Meeting and Expo in Phoenix, Arizona, February 4th and 5th. The 6381 interoperates with Paradyne's GranDSLAM(R) 8820, 8620 and 4200 DSLAMs and Paradyne's BitStorm(TM) 4800 DSLAM as well as other third party DSLAMs using standards-based ADSL or ADSL/R chipset technology.
