Microsoft execs slam Sony Blu-Ray strategy

Source: GamesIndustry.biz
___________
The war of words between bitter rivals Microsoft and Sony has intensified, with top Xbox Europe execs launching an astonishing attack on the Japanese firm's decision to include its next-generation DVD technology in PlayStation 3 as standard.

Speaking to Eurogamer TV in part one of an exclusive E3 interview broadcast today, Xbox UK boss Neil Thompson and Europe boss Chris Lewis both accused Sony of “forcing” its Blu-Ray DVD technology onto consumers.

madmatty is on a distinguished road

Theres too much emphasis on people thinking blue ray is just for films. The format is also suitable for games as well and takes away any doubt from the developers about enough disk space for there game. Since the 360 is stuck with dvd9 (devs told not to develope for hddvd addon as then its a forced upgrade) this could possably mean that the 360 may not get as much HD content as the ps3 in future games.

Including dvd in the ps2 made it expensive, but has shown to be the right decition as it gave dvd to the masses and helped make dvd what it is today and theres no reason ps3 cant do the same with blue ray. Games soon grew too big to fit on cd and the inbuilt dvd drive helped bring us the great games we see today.

However if they pull the green screen with rgb dvd stunt again (with blue ray equivelent) id be pretty pissed and the soul reason why when choosing a newer dvd player , sony wasnt an option.

I wont be able to afford the ps3 at launch, but those with the money are at least assured of having one on launch day instead of waiting ages due to fast sellout and are not forced to pay the extortionate ebay pricies
