Eidos announces a 10th Anniversary Edition’ of Tomb Raider, confirming reports (story) of a planned Tomb Raider remake in a vague press release:

Eidos Interactive, one of the world’s leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, confirms today that they are developing a special ‘10th Anniversary Edition’ of Tomb Raider.

The new game is being developed by Crystal Dynamics, who recently launched Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend on Xbox 360, PS2, Xbox, PC and PSP, with versions on Nintendo DS, GBA and GameCube later in 2006.

It should read "as a whole", but of course it get's consumers and share holders more excited when smoke is blown up their butts.

The orignal Tomb Raider sales were: PC = 2 million, and PS1 = 4.5 million. Tomb Raider II did better with the PC version selling 2.3 million, and the PS1 version with 5 million. I can't remember what the later games sold though, but I do remember that is was close to something like a million or two for each game on each platform. Legend is already close to 2.5/3 million total.

And only God knows how or why I remember this crap...
