Asustek Computer plans to introduce a series of GPS-enabled PDAs based on the Mobile Windows Mobile OS for car-use applications in the second half of 2006 and will release the P305, a third-generation (3G) Windows smartphone, in September, the Chinese-language Apple Daily cited the company as stating. Gigabyte Communications, a wholly-owned handset subsidiary of Gigabyte Technology, has secured orders of high-end Windows PDA phones from unspecified European telecom carriers with shipments to begin in the second half, according to the paper, quoting the company.
Microsoft inaugurated the Mobile and Embedded Developers Conference (MDEC) 2006 in Taiwan on June 20, with participants including Quanta Computer, Asustek and Gigabyte Communications.
