Sources: Intel to encounter challenges in IGP market

Although Intel plans to roll out its G965 IGP chipset in August, chipset makers are conservative about the chip giant's ability to grab a performance edge over other chipset makers in the integrated graphics processor (IGP) segment, sources in Taiwan's chipset sector noted.

The upcoming G965 chipset will add Shader Model 3 and Direct X 9 capabilities with advanced 3D performance to Intel's chipset lineup. However, the sources indicated competitors such as ATI and Nvidia focus on graphics as their core business, so it will be hard for Intel to outperform these makers when it comes to integrated graphics performance.
