Africans embrace technology, cost still prohibitive

CAPE TOWN (Reuters) - Africans are fast embracing technology as a driver of economic growth but prohibitive costs mean they will lag behind wealthier countries for many years, a leaders forum in South Africa heard this week.

Whereas global figures like Microsoft founder Bill Gates and former U.S. President Bill Clinton dreamed of what the computer age will be in another two decades -- with robots and vaccines for diseases like malaria and tuberculosis.

Mozambique President Armando Guebuza saw the Internet in Africa as a possible boon today to education and health.
