WoW Holding Back PC Industry, Says Developer
Source: 1Up
___________ Is it possible gamers are having so much fun, it's actually hurting the industry? Iron Lore's Brian Sullivan, Titan Quest creator and co-creator of the Age of Empires series, seems to think so. In an interview feature with Gamasutra, the designer wonders if incredibly popular time sink-oriented online games like World of Warcraft, in spite of their individual popularity, are holding back new releases. |

i'd say they are indeed holding back the rest of the genre market.
theres alot of people that love to play other genres that are sinking thousands of hours and piles of money into MMORPGs

HAHA! Well, I would have to agree to a point. The biggest thing holding back other games is that most of them are crap. The majority of good games all come out at one time of the year; the holiday season.
Don't get me wrong. I am not saying that all games are crap, but a lot of them are. WoW on the other hand is a great game and things are always being added. Why leave something you are satisfied with??? Give me some games that are worthwhile and I may buy them. Make a demo for every game and stop using starforce. LOL... those are factors that keep me from looking at a lot of games. I am not saying don't protect your IP, but I will not waste my money on something that will hose my PC. I am just gonna stop there. I could go on and on about the non-stop sequels and lack of innovation, forever. I think we all know that it's the gaming industry that is holding itself back. |

or they are just not getting to play. i know a LOT of people that have not purchased a game in months or over a year because they do not like these type of games.

The Irony is that Brian Sullivan, and Co., put allot of effort into a game then hobbled it with Securom7 that made the game utterly crash happy. And ANY game that CTDs randomly, has characters that become corrupted, and has no functional backup system out of box, should not even be considered for purchase.
I'd even go so far as to say that Brian's mother should be slapped and his dog should be kicked because of his complete incompetance. To add to this injury by trying to implicate some other companie's success as being responsible for the lack of Titan Quest sales is insulting. Perhaps Ironlore should go out of business and Brian should go to work doing something he can be good at, like perhaps janitorial work ... No! I guess he couldn't do that either. I could just go on and on about all the problems in Titan Quest. But I quit playing it! And just thinking about it makes me angry. I don't like it when a company rips me off!!! They could have done so much better if they just took a bit of time to do a little quality control. But NO! The bean counters said we have to get this on the shelves NOW. (grrr!!) What they don't understand is that they've trashed the Ironlore brand name. I might not want to even buy something published by THQ. See I know that some other company will come out with something that interests me, and they'll do a decent job of it if they realize that ripping people off doesn't pay. |

Only games that require a monthly fee can be affected by this cause people only have so much cash to spend and it'll go to the best game. For regular games I don't see any one game that could hold back the industry.
