The interesting thing is that the recommended specs are all DX9 cards. Does that mean the effects are all SM3.0 and not DX10 stuff?

Everyone with a DX9 card can play it. the game will be based on DX9 but will have some greyed out area`s featureing DX10 stuff, so you will need DX10 card and Vista to play it.

though by the looks of it Vista is in the minimum specs so im guessing you need that os aswell.

You need to re-read that, the spec is DX9.c min on windows XP. The vista reference is for RAM since vista is going to need more than XP uses.

I'm surprised they made the specs so high. Far Cry ran pretty good on older hardware like a Geforce3 or radeon8500 at a time when the 9800xt & fx5900 were top dogs.

This looks like the death knell for the venerable 9800

Bullshit! Minimun requirements is too high. I could barely run it, but i'm real confident i can run it atleast on medium. If not, i'm not gonna die.

Thats the point! Crysis is going to be the game to show off your system, but its not that bad

Core 2 6300 - £150
Mobo - £150
2GB Corsair DDR2 Ram - £140
7900 - £180
PSU - £120
Case - £80
HDD - £50

Total cost - £870 - certainly not Extreme prices, heck alot of UK Computer companies still lump integrated graphics with sub £900 comps, or x300 or 6200 cards.

Update, these are not official specs. But I'm sure we can eventually expect to see something quite similar coming out.

I believe you can run it on XP. There'll just be some enhancements that are only available via DirectX 10 I think.

but won't there be a DX10 upgrade you can d/l for winXP? winXP will still be supported for some time to come after Vista has been released. Vista will already have DX10 incorporated into it's OS, so d/ling it won't be necessary.

I think DX10 is Vista exclusive.

Good so I can play it on low/medium now for the fun factor then play it again once i get Vista and a midrange DX10 card for the wow factor. Either way another gig of ram couldnt hurt.

@CDsDontBurn: the way I read it, it'll be playable on XP. 786MB minimum system RAM if you have XP, 1GB minimum system RAM if you have Vista, by the way it was typed up.
