Symantec profit falls, but beats targets

Symantec on Wednesday posted a smaller-than-expected fall in quarterly profit due to strong sales of its Norton Internet Security software, and gave an outlook that tops Wall Street expectations.

The news sent shares in Symantec, the world's biggest security software maker, up 7 percent in after-hours trade.

"It looks like they beat and put up slightly better guidance," said Richard Williams, an analyst at ICAP.
