AMD shows off mobile Athlon 64s

AMD has a suite just round the corner from Intel's Developer Forum at the San Jose Convention Center in the Fairmont Hotel, and is showing off its 64-bit chip family to waifs and strays that wander in there.

First, off AMD has a mobile Athlon 64 reference design which includes 256MB of PC 2000 memory, the K8T400 chipset, and an ATI M9 graphics card. The mobile chip will be launched in September.

The firm also had two systems side by side. One had an Athlon 64 3000+ inside, the other an Intel 3.06GHz CPU. Aside from the chipsets/motherboards, the Nforce 2 and the 845PE respectively, the machines were identically configured.

The boys ran Intel's Photoshop hyperthreading script, and the AMD box finished in 1500ms compared to the Intel's 1700ms.

Finally, the firm had a four way Opteron box, running with SuSE Linux. This machine was equipped with AMD 8131, 8111 Hypertransport, 12GB of PC 2100 memory, an 80GB hard drive and a Matrix G450 graphics card.
