Circuit City Burns Rumors

Source: Red Herring
__________
The Internet lit afire Friday, with blog-watchers running to their DVD collections as reports of a new Circuit City DVD-copying service spread across the web. But don’t hop in the car just yet; the big electronics retailer is offering no such program.

The story was both Slashdotted and Digged, with users across both popular Internet hangouts praising Circuit City for allegedly sticking it to the man—or two men: the MPAA and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Originally posted on The Consumerist blog, the photograph and accompanying story suggested that Circuit City was beginning to offer a video transfer service for an “original copy of your DVD collection.”

“That sign was not an authorized sign, wasn’t issued by the store support center, and the information on the sign is not correct,” said Bill Cimino, director of corporate communications for Circuit City.
