Unlock Conroe Core 2 Multi. Using Intel 975BX
Source/read more: Xtremesystems
_________ "The Nemesis" over at xtremesystems has a juicy rumour for all of you planning to buy or alread own Intels new Conroe CPU, he got this info from a Intel Rep. at Quakecon in Texas, USA. "This mod has yet to be confirmed to work, but from what was said at Quakecon here in Texas this weekend by an Intel marketing rep who was demonstrating the overclocking of Intels X6800. It is possible to unlock the multiplier upwards of any Conroe Core 2 Duo, using intels 975BX motherboard by soldering or using conductive paint on a solder point located on the motherboard. I do not own an Intel system but after this I just have to try. The jumper to connect is J8J4 marked MFG and is located between the Black serial ata ports, just to the right of a fan header."

The initial attempts to get this mod to work seems to have failed....maybe that Intel Rep didn't have a clue and was just blowing air out of his mouth. It would indeed be sweet if it was true though...

well according to the 7 pages of the forum thread, this mod has been debunked, i.e. False.

A question about your rig
[QUOTE=Asmoday]Source/read more: Xtremesystems
_________ Hi, I read a post by you (but maybe it was on a another forum or site) on 8/7/06 where you said you couldn't resist getting a new Conroe. I'm also getting that board and that chip and having someone build me a system using those components and I wonder if your Corsair memory was also working out easily and trouble free for you. I'm not really a true enthusiast and don't know very much about all the technical things about these mobos, overclocking and the like but I am learning. However, I know about checking the bios revision on the ASUS so it will boot with the 6600. Are there any other things I should definitely warn my builder about as he undertakes this build? Do I need a heat sink (?Zalman) for the CPU. Also, I'm thinking to go for the nVidia GeForce 7950 GX2 GPU. I plan to do mostly video editing (including high def) but I know my adult sons will want to try out their high end games on this system as well. Many thanks for your help. Michael J. Curtin |

Hi mcurtin,
No I'm not Asmoday. However, one thing should be noted is you'll need a nice hefty PSU for your system. I'm going to say some thing around 600W from a good company should do fine. It would actually be much more helpful if we had a complete list of your specs. Make a new post here: http://driverheaven.net/forumdisplay.php?f=23 /w your specs, and we'll help you out. |
