EchoStar Communications on Wednesday posted a lower second-quarter profit as subscriber growth slowed.

The U.S. No. 2 satellite television operator reported a net profit of $168.8 million, or 38 cents per share, compared with 57 cents a share for the same quarter a year ago after excluding a one-time, noncash, tax benefit.
