Battlefield 2 Patch Next Week

Planet Battlefield (thanks Ant) has some details on plans for the coming version 1.4 patch for Battlefield 2, but if this is the announcement we were expecting (story) it comes from the surprising source of EA Spain, which forced PBF to do a little translating:

Your opinions and reports of bugs have been very useful to improve the stability of the client and server for this patch. Also the new map Road to Jalalabad "Sponsored by Comcast", as well as new the new server option "No Vehicles" which adds a new dimension to classic Battlefield experience. Patch 1.4 will be available next Tuesday 15 of August.

In addition, in the attempt to continue supporting our community it we are pleased to announce the first cycle of our MODLight in which we will review the talent of the of community mods. This includes each mod will be reviewed and hosted on servers worldwide so that the players can enjoy.

God, you should read the interview with one of the developers overseeing the patch. No balacing whatsoever is being addressed this patch is solely designed to fix the crashing and thats it. When asked about rebalancing the J10 or making claymores susceptible to grenades he shot any chance of these ever being worked on they aren't even a priority.

This patch is just EA cleaning up their mess and I doubt we'll actually see a real patch that fixes gameplay issues cause once BF2142 is out BF2 might as well not exist to EA.

seriously, they said they worked on the j10 for 3 weeks, and wound up making it more lethal, and now they wont rework it back down because they are lazy bastards

i wont even hop in a jet unless its a J10, or we control the enemy airbase and there are no J10s in the sky. its completly pointless to, they dominate every other jet and copter out there. you dont have a chance in hell against them unless its a terrible piolet.

i just re-installed BF2 last night, since i formatted my comp last month, w/the 1.3 patch. was playing for a little while (like 4hrs. lol) earlier today and rather enjoyed it

. guess i shoulda waited for the 1.4 patch to come out before i installed it again

Here are excerpts from the interview with Dice. They will PISS YOU OFF!

Metallicaguitrst (F-35b Vs J-10... Please Fix!): F-35B is practically useless... Some people like myself have gotten used to this, and can still be "somewhat" effective with the jet, but this is just ridiculous. For the most part, if a J-10 gets behind you, you are going down. Unless he is completely new to the game or flying jets, you are pretty much going down.

Colin Clarke (Updated Answer): So we took a long hard look at this issue in relation to what we could try to do in 1.4. We did some tuning to the J-10. Believe me or not most tuning we did actually made that lil sucker even more lethal (some people may have seen a server named 'J-10 Test' up within the last few weeks). Which brought us to the realization that if we were to do anything drastic to the J-10 it would likley ruin the vehicle unless we spent weeks in review and retuning. We then reviewed what would be required to adjust the F35. The work and tuning and adjustment that would be required to try and bring the F35 up was roughly equal given the dual function of the F35 engine. I also received a crash course (har har) on hit box construction which helped me realize that this also would not be a simple adjustment and would also require weeks of adjustment and trial-and-error. Long story short - This dynamic will not be changing in 1.4.

Eastcoasthandle (We should be able to destory claymores with grenades): I mean come on, if you can see a claymore and have a grenade why can't you destroy them? It makes no sense. If you didn't see the claymore and it kills you so be it. However if the combatant place the claymore in clear sight and it's blocking your path chucking a grenade should solve the problem. I also believe that zealous snipers hopping around the field chucking claymores will stop once they are destroyed. This will make this tactic pretty useless as claymore chucking leaves them in clear line of sight for everyone to see. The point of claymore chucking is to get a combatant who is in front of you at the time the claymore is released. If the claymore chucker misses his mark it simply leaves a claymore in clear sight. Therefore, anyone should be able to chuck a grenade at it to get rid of the threat and keep this boardline exploit down to a min.

Colin Clarke: The canada team looked into adjusting claymores so that they could be destroyed by specific soldier munitions and found the change would be a code change with significant risk. So this change will not be coming through in 1.4.

Talus (Any change on widescreen support issue?): Is there a chance we may see 16:10 widescreen resolutions officially supported in BF2 in the future?

Colin Clarke: This is something that is on our list but will not be coming for BF2 and is unlikely for 2142. I do not have the intimate details on widescreen for 2142 at this time.

Adamfool99 (Repair Points): I think the repair points should come more than they do now. It is easy to get heal points and ammo points but it is a pain in the ace to get even 5 repair points in one round. You have to literally do nothing BUT repair to get the Expert Engineer Badge. I think Repair Points should come more often.

Colin Clarke: Hi guys, there are not going to be any changes to the current scoring system. While I love the engineer kit, and some of the ideas I have seem posted are pretty entertaining (throwing land mines), any changes to the scoring system at this time would require a full overall evaluation.

Yep, they make this stuff sound like its impossible when most of the fixes we want are how the game used to be!

EA/Dice are only concerned with ending the bitching by server companies who have to deal with crashes nonstop they could care less about all the gamplay fixes that are needed.

It's basically the same game but with futuristic weapons. EA rushed it out to compete with Quake Wars. Those expecting something radically different will be let down.
