REDMOND, Wash. — Nintendo's soon-to-be-released Wii video game console is getting raves from reviewers and others who have gotten an early peek.

The Wii (pronounced wee) sports an innovative controller: To hit a tennis ball, you swing it like a racket; to drive an SUV over treacherous terrain, you twist it like a steering wheel; to shoot a duck, you point it like a pistol. Getting consumers to try it — and jump-start Nintendo's ambitious plan to trump Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 — falls to Reginald Fils-Aime, 45, Nintendo of America's new president and chief operating officer.

In other nintendo fanboy news, the price of a used psp is dropping to 180 dollars. Lowering the used price is typical of consoles entering sales free-fall. Companies that buy used systems need to stop paying so much for a failing console as well as find a way to sell them as fast as they are being returned.

In other other nintendo fanboy news, lumines is going to be on xbox live arcade. This will hurt the psp even more as sony realizes what it means to have your most successful title be a third party game that is free to go where it wants.

UMD is still dead, popular psp games are still being ported to ps2, and it's still selling 1/5 as well as the ds lite.

The only question that remains is... who can break nintendo's stranglehold on the handheld market? The psp made a splash not unlike a shotgun shell to a t2000.

I doubt the Wii will beat the Xbox... I mean, less power, useless controller, horrible graphics, less integration with other appliances and worse franchises (game wise).

Only thing its got going for it is price.

Its got the Nintendo name. Truthfully it is pretty bold with its controler idea. Just think of a game with sword fighting. Just that would be enough for me to buy it. I'm guessin they'll release a classic controller if they have the online feature to buy old Nintendo games.

If I could buy Perfect Dark, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Goldeneye, Mario 64, Mariokart, Chrono Trigger, Zelda a Link to the Past, and pretty muc hany game from my childhood then this thing would me more than worth it to me.

The Wii is going to outsell all the competitiors no matter how weak the graphics are or "old school" the titles are. If anything gamers that own 360's will get a wii and then what possible use would they have for a PS3?

You couldn't make me play a DS or a Gamecube (ok, just for RE:4) and I have no use for lame ass 360's and PS3 when I've already got a high end PC but I'm actually considering buying a wii just cause it looks like loads of fun. I'm just one of thousands of people Nintendo can turn from jaded former fans to new customers.

What are you talking about?

Edit: I think you mean how Gamecube owned PS2 in graphics. Seein as Xbox 360 and PS2 were released first in their generation.

Graphics won't matter at all for the Wii. Nintendo, much as I hate them for catering to kids for years, is concentrating on fun and immersiveness. This is a brilliant strategy cause it will allow them to appeal to PC gamers as well as people who own a 360/PS3.

I won't be surprised if Wii outsells both 360 and PS3 combined.

I loved how the Xbox fanboys kept saying the Xbox was so much more superior due to the 4 bits or so more

But anyway, the thing I've noticed about Gamecube games is that they are a LOT more vivid in color, and much more appealing to the eye.. Xbox may have looked more realistic, but most of the time the colors weren't as impressive as GC (in my opinion anyway)

Peronsally, I think the Wii will do better than the GC, and this time around even be on par with the 360 in terms of popularity. The price alone will make people want to go out and buy the Wii. A lot of people will think to themselves, "Why wouldn't I buy it at that price?"

Even though I'm gunna wait to buy a Wii

I'll wait for a cool Zelda game to come out, and I'll go from there (Twilight Princess doesn't count because I already have that preordered for GC

)

the gamecubes graphics power and features aren't steller, but they are pretty damn good,

If you were to compare Halo 1 to Metroid Prime 1 or Halo 2 to Metroid Prime 2, you would clearly see that they are comparible in amount of geometry and quality.

GameCube was designed very well, it's as far as i understand, one of the most easiest to develope for.

Gamecube has alot of M Rated games, it's just to bad that majority of the shops the sell em only stock the "shit" games that everyone then labels as kids games and then further labels Gamecube as a kids console.

Frankly, you talk to anyone that owns a gamecube and regularly plays it and knows of it's abilities and the games they have, you would realize quickly that by no means, is the gamecube a kids console. It's by far, has a comparible list of games available for it that stacks up with the xbox and PS2.

And to those that think mario is a kids games, bite me, you either are a self cautiaus dolt that is worried about his maturity or something. Or Are a biased bastard.

Mario Kart Double dash is a riot to play, by yourself or better with yourself. Other mario games are just as great.

and IMO, Super Mario Bros. on the DS is the ultimate game to have.

It's funny that nintendo's consoles have always launched at 200-250, but this time around that price is considered as being "cheap" given the competition.

Im all about the Wii because of its fun factor, To me the controller is awesome, and who's to say they wont just have a "normal" wireless controller. Cant wait to sword fight!
