DirecTV, EchoStar reduce action in wireless sale

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The joint venture of satellite television providers DirecTV Group Inc. and EchoStar Communications Corp. on Tuesday reduced most of its eligibility to bid in the U.S. auction of licenses for advanced wireless services.

The venture, called Wireless DBS, had made the biggest deposit -- $972.5 million -- ahead of the Federal Communications Commission sale. However, auction data shows that since Monday the joint venture has substantially reduced its eligibility to continue bidding.
