Wrecks caused by cell phones bring fine in DeKalb

Drivers who cause a wreck while talking on a cell phone will face a fine of up to 500 dollars under a law that took effect yesterday in DeKalb County.The law is believed to be the first of its kind in Georgia. It sanctions drivers whose improper usage of a mobile phone was a "contributing factor" in a collision causing death, injury or damage.

County officials said the law applies in unincorporated DeKalb, not its cities. About 80 percent of the county is unincorporated.

bout time....sounds hard to enforce though

If you get caught driving here and using your cell it's an instant fine and you have good posibility of loosing your license. Simple as that. In a country of 10 million where the average cellphone per citizen is of 3..well you get the picture...
