With ATI focused on AMD, new opportunities seen for VIA and SiS
Read More/Source: Digitimes
_______________ Taiwan-based chipset vendors VIA Technologies and Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) are expected to benefit from ATI's rumored decision to cut down chipset developments for the Intel platform, sources at Taiwan motherboard makers indicated. If the rumor is true, the two vendors will get some space in the entry-level integrated chipset market to be filled with their solutions, according to the sources. Assuming that AMD, which recently acquired ATI, will eventually sell ATI chipsets bundled with its own processors, PC vendors may begin considering VIA and SiS as more preferable suppliers of entry-level chipsets for the Intel platform, the sources guessed. |

Also worth a mention, both VIA and Sis are set to launch directx 9 capable onboard graphics.
As for the most respectable onboard at the moment, that seems to be between Nvidia (6150) and ATI (Radeon express), with Intel's half-hearted attempt lagging far behind. It remain to be seen if the VIA and SiS offerings are reasonably competent hardware, or use such outdated features as software T&L. Compared to Nvidia and ATI, they all have years of neglect in the graphics field to overcome, when onboards were just a bad joke.
