eVGA step up program not all its cracked up to be?

I have had a few private messages from forum members lately regarding the fact that eVGA's publically acclaimed "step up" program isn't quite as wonderful as it might appear to be. eVGA have terms and conditions around this step up program - as they quote:

Products known to have limited availability will not be made available to the Step-Up Program. (Limited availability determined by EVGA production.)
EVGA retains the right to revoke or revise the EVGA Step-Up™ Service at will. If so, participants shall be informed through the EVGA website without notice of any such change.

Several of our forum members have attempted to upgrade to new 7900GTX and GX2 cards and have been refused, even though they are still within the time limits of the step up program.

EVGA marketing stated the following on their support forums:
"Due to the limited qty available of the 7900 GTX and the 7950 GX2 SKU’s we had to turn off the step-up availability of these 2 SKU’s."

All this and more can be found in their support forums

Bar81 is on a distinguished road

That would make it clearer but as it reads it makes perfect sense.

As to the whole crying going on, I have no sympathy. If you bought without reading the small print then it's on you. If you read the small print then you were aware this might happen. If you don't do your due diligence you deserve what you get. I think evga is handling this very well by continuing to honor those in the cue; frankly they could have just said no more to everyone but they kept their commitment despite no legal need to - that's above and beyond the call.

while you are right, they are wrong imo. evga sells most of their cards from nv manafacture. the have no 'extras' at all, they dont compete $$ wise, their prime maketing is the 'stepup prog'. if they are actually going to exercise their stepup options without giving their customers recourse then their stepup prog is worthless imo.
i have no problem with them having shortage issues(in this case they are created by the overall 7900 problems) & saying ' hey we cant do that right now, give us some time & we will make it right'.
this did not happen, they had a screwup becaaus e of the 7900 probs & passed it into their customers. while this, unfortunately, seems to be fairly common practice, i think it is bad business when a lot of the selling power of your product is based on potential upgrade.
imo they should have offered all us peeps hanging out there a one time oppurtunity to upgrade to either of those cards when they can make them available again.

Mike2h thanks for the pm (i don't want you thinking i have ignored it) about this update,it's appreciated that you are passing on further information.

Instead of making a fresh thread it is probably best this is kept in the same link..

even though you have posted just above me here is the quote from the link.

EVGA_Marketing (Forum Admin)
Customers who have purchased their card on or before 8/15/06 will still be able to qualify for the step-up. Anyone who submits for a step-up with an invalid date will be denied at the invoice verification approval.

Due to the limited qty available of the 7900 GTX and the 7950 GX2 SKU’s we had to turn off the step-up availability of these 2 SKU’s.

We have done this per our terms and conditions that can be read on the following website: http://evga.com/stepup/default.asp?switch=2

EVGA will support the people that already have cards in queue and are waiting for the email to go ahead and finish their RMA.

Thank you for your patients and cooperation along with your continued support of EVGA products.

Hope all you evga owners who particpate in this program get what they wish in the near future.

I talked to a contact in eVGA about this today after I read your posting in submit news. They seemed to want to avoid bad PR and im glad they called you later.
