PS3 Will be Shipping Without HDMI Cable

Source: PS3 Land
_________
Sony has been touting the benefits of HDMI ever since the announcement of the PlayStation 3 at last year's E3, and the inclusion of an HDMI cable with every unit has been something which fans of both the console and HDMI have been hoping for. Fans often claimed that the inclusion of an HDMI cable would further acceptance of the standard while critics argued that it would be too expensive and would be better as an option.

Now, it has been revealed via the PlayStation 3's official site that the console will not be shipping with an HDMI cable. “HDMI cable not included”, reads the site when answering the What is HDMI question.

Thanks Digerati!!!

WOW again my point about sony trying to rip off the customer as much as possible has happened again.

Ok so I buy a $600 game/HD dvd player and I can't even use it to it's full power unless I spend another amount of money on the cord. Why don't they just make you buy the power cord as well and say you don't need to play the ps3 the box it self is pretty enough.

Thats why I hate sony. Maybe if they don't rip the customer off so much they might not be such a bad company. O I also love the line "it would be too expensive" well if they think adding another $5 (buying in bulk) a box is to expensive then how did they come up with $600 per box? I think thats to expensive. If I was going to spend that much making it $605 would be no big deal for me because I know I could not buy a HDMI cord for $5 lol.

Sorry for the double post but I was told to by the mighty news poster guy Sandok!

Yeah...I don't think anyone is goin to be buying this.

I was so proud of changing my brothers mind on something though. He has always been a hardcore playstation and sony fan. So we got into an arguement about PS3 xbox360. I pretty much listed every reason not to pick up a PS3 and that xbox360 and ps3 were kinda switching roles in the market.

The next day he came up to me and was like. "(sigh) so how much does an xbox 360 cost nowadays".

He is the most stuborn person on the entire planet and If all the info about PS3 was enough to sway him (hardcore playstation fanatic) then it really muct not be worth the money.

I will buy it if and only if they release FF7 for it (unchanged, just graphically enhanced).

That game to me is worth a 600$ system

Not even a HD-DVD player comes with a HDMI cable. HDMI cables can run 50 to 100 bucks depending on the length and quality. So, stop bitching about something you don't plan on buying anyways.

Zeph is an unknown quantity at this point

This genuinely doesn't surprise me. I dont think it matters anyways. It wont effect the launch sales of the console, and probably wont have an effect on the general market. This is no different than having to buy component video cables for your xbox. The people who will want the difference would be willing to pay out for the cable.

The difference is the Sony core system cannot be upgraded to the full system. If you get the basic system it will never be able to do what the full system can. The core Xbox360 system is simply missing some optional add-ons. If you buy the add-ons the core system is identical to the full one.

as long as its not natively HDMI and some cables are included thats by all means sufficient.

only the 360 includes component cables because it is cheaper now, and you do pay for the higher end package already. i dont blame them it is damn expensive

that is HDMI to HDMI, not a PS3 connector to HDMI. costs more to make, and obviously they are trying to make money from the acessories. they make nothing off the ps3 anyways.

Well they would be making money on the games if they could be a tad bit more reasonable. The problem is, if they release it when they do I don't think the consumer is going to care. When I talk about Blu-Ray and HD-DVD and only hear "WTF is that", then you know the market is not ready for the release. When they hear "It plays DVDs out of box" (ala 360) everything's peachy again.

This is the perspective I'm getting in my region, but feel free to list your experiences too

Well I agree the blueray is not that big of deal. They are pushing so hard that a standard dvd can not hold the great detail and storage needed for these next gen games. So I am like well right now I am not so lazy to get up and switch the disk when I get to that point. And I would only have to do it every time the disk runs out not every time you boot up the game so I don't care if thats the case for 360 users. Plus I like the idea that you can pick almost anything you want for your xbox and not have to pay for stuff you don't want. I can't wait for the Xbox 360 HD DVD player coming out by xmas!

Also for the next gen systems lets hope they include like a 4 to 6 disk disk changer so super lazy people never have to get up on the 360 you can turn on and off your system from the controller but you still have to get up to change out the game...

P.S. sony could make it easy on themself and release a HDMI to HDMI cord like a stand alone dvd player would have instead of a special connector.

One other thing is that no video game is going to be mafe to full 1080P rez it's just to hard to make a video game at that high of a rez. And why bother spending the money for it when the market is so small no one would care if the game is that high or not. I think 720P or 1080i is fine for 99.98% of the users. But that's just me

Well I looked at the official pictures of the PS3.
http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...cending&page=1

And the pictures of the HDMI wiki.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:HDMI_Diagram.svg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:H...tor_Pinout.svg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:H...rface_Plug.jpg

It appears that SONY has used a standard HDMI connection.

Doesn't really matter to me either way. I am not getting one, but I wanted to add my 2¢.

I have to disagree. It's not hard, you just have to specialize, allocate, and organize your code, models, and textures. I personally work with making content that would run perfectly fine at 1900x1200. Of course it's on a PC, but consoles make game developement soo much easier. The 360/PS3 can easily push those resolutions.
