In 1995, an astronomer-turned-computer scientist called Clifford Stoll wrote a book called Silicon Snake Oil that few people read and the majority of those that did violently disagreed with. In the book, Stoll warned that the wonders of e-mail and Internet access were being oversold, and that nobody ever wanted to discuss the negative impacts of computing technology. In today's world, where spammers continue to flood our Inboxes and nefarious web sites try ever harder to crack our computer's security and install malware, one wonders if perhaps he had a valid point.

Looking back at some of the dates, it seems this has been a project of innumerable delays and a lot of theory and little practice, seems to have been pretty dead since 2004, going by the dates mentioned.
