LONDON (Reuters) - Online gambling firms faced their biggest-ever crisis on Monday after U.S. Congress passed legislation to end Internet gaming there, threatening jobs and wiping 3.5 billion pounds ($6.5 billion) off company values.

You have to remember that in a good majority of the states gambling is still illegal. They get around this by offering the gambling "cruises" due to the fact that no real laws apply when you are on the water.

My personal opinion is that gambling is an organised form of public mugging. Gambling preys on people's weakness in that a lot of people are easily addicted and wind up losing all they own.

In the article is said that partypoker makes 4 million a day. How is this helping the economy? The only thing I see it helping is that company's bottom line.

Personally, I don't gamble. All I can say is good riddance.

Agreed. Online poker is huge in sweden, ads run constantly on the tele, but it's a huge addiction problem as well. I have a mate who used to train with me all the time but now he mostly sits at his keyboard.
