Beaming people in "Star Trek"-fashion is still in the realm of science fiction. But physicists in Denmark have teleported information from light to matter, bringing quantum communication and computing closer to reality.

A bunch of scientists say teleporting a human is totally impossible.

Even saying another 1000 years.

I think we'll have it much much sooner then that.

I do hope I live to see this put to practical uses. The idea is so mind blowing and intriguing.

IMO, i think every single shipping company and even the military will have it closed down and wrapped up because of what it could do.

Who needs vehicles and companies to ship and all that stuff if it can just be BOOM there.

And we can't have the consumers having teleporters cause then people could easily smuggle and my gaud...

That's what i'm worried about happening, everyone locking it down and FORCEING it to never ever happen.

I think you are getting ahead of yourself Judas. Transfering quantum material (an atom or part of an atom) one foot or so on a stream of light is far from transfering a platoon or solders from Oregon to China. If anything, this effects computing (and possible communication) the greatest. Its the idea of "on's" and "offs", not whether they can ship living, multicelled organisms at the speed of light (which from my knowledge in physics, is totally impossible).

actually we base alot on the theory of various physics in which we haven't figured out how they work or test how they work..

Teleportation is probable. Lets just say that, same thing with moving faster then the speed of light.

The whole idea of teleporting physical/light mass and energy is amazing, but the initial application was to say teleport a human from A to B

Thats not science, thats theory. Physics is science, based on verifiable, tested data. If you are refering to multi-dimensional string theory, well, its not physics, its fancy math (and will most likely be disproven in a few years).

Teleportation is more than probable, it has happened, two years ago for the first time. As far as moving faster than light, it can't happen. That's general relativity, and unless I missed something huge (biggest breakthrough ever) still accepted as the governing law of physics.

Alot of the physics that i was taught in school was mostly all based on sure fact, but alot of the larger concepts were also only based on Theory as there was not set factual tested methods used to disprove or prove such. Alot of things i was taught were theory, in which case is a reason i hated school as then they'd make up stupid tests based on theory and expect you to do the work around them.

Reguardless, Current physics dictates that no one can break the light speed barrier, however it's still theory and there has been little to no way of REALLY knowing for sure so it's more of a theory then it is fact, then again, all things factually present thus far says otherwise.

btw, the teleportation thing is quite old, the first "teleported" thing i beleive was back in 98. Watched the thing on tv about it all (2 hour documentry and information thingy).

Millitary probably already has a stranglehold over it. If it can be employed effectively with the millitary then we may see it used for everything 20 years after that.

Ok, I just finished reading Wikipedia's article about Heisenberg uncertainty principle. One thing I can't really explain to my self is how they managed to over come Heisenberg uncertainty principle...
