If rumors that Intel plans to buy Nvidia prove true, negotiations with San Jose city officials to move the Santa Clara graphics-chip maker to downtown's long-vacant Sobrato tower will fall apart.

A city official participating in the negotiations that began Monday said Thursday he has been assured that the rumors swirling about the two companies are just rumors. Harry Mavrogenes, head of the city's redevelopment agency, said talks with Nvidia are still on track.
