Prices for Intel quad-core desktop CPUs available
Source: DigiTimes
__________ Intel's first quad-core desktop processor, the Core 2 Extreme QX6700, which is scheduled to be released next month, will sell for US$999 in 1,000-unit quantities, according to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers who are familiar with Intel's latest roadmap. The Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor will be available in January 2007 at US$851, the sources added. As prices for both the QX6700 and Q6600 are too high, it will prevent the quad-core CPUs from gaining popularity, stated the sources. According to Intel's roadmap, quad-core processors will only account for 3% of the company's total desktop CPU shipments within one year following the launch, the sources indicated. Heh, I wondered about that when I read this earlier today. I really had my eye on a quad core 6600, but I would never spend that much money on a processor. Perhaps I can find an OEM retailer offering a setup with it for considerably cheap and canabilize the rig for parts.

Quad cores are cool if you are bulding a system for video encoding or 3d applications like 3d studio max, but for normal programs and games, it look like to be a waste of money.

that's what they said about dual cores.. and frankly, there is absalutely no water being held on that topic.... dual cores, using single threaded games, still produces excellent responding system and speed..
I can't wait for a quad core.. but i'm most likely going to avoid intel again and sub for the amd 4x4. Specially with AMD's RHT

Thats true, but we are moving really fast atm. and games are only starting to take advantage of dual core. And the benchmarks we seen so far of quad cores in games have been good, but not worth the huge pricetag.

Thing is, it's not about the games using them though....
The pricetag is going to be huge, your buying 4 CPU's in a single package.... imaging buying 4 single core cpu's.... let alone the motherboard to run it.
