Rise in chip shipments lifts AMD profit

Advanced Micro Devices posted a higher quarterly profit on Wednesday, as it increased its chip shipments by 18 percent from the previous quarter.

AMD, the second-largest maker of computer processors, said that for its third quarter, net profit was $134.5 million, or 27 cents per share, compared with $76 million, or 18 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue was $ 1.33 billion, down nearly 13 percent from $1.52 billion a year ago.
