Great News for the AGP Gamer: X1950 PRO AGP! @ NGOHQ
Source: NGOHQ
Please Discuss at Driverheaven _______________ In case you missed our interview with PowerColor’s Raymen Wu yesterday, we have some great news for all the AGP fans out there. (Actually, we do have good news from time to time but you people always seem to be surprised! Maybe it’s time for you to put us in your Favorites. Hint, hint.) Anyway, Raymen confirmed to us in the interview that PowerColor will be introducing an AGP version of X1950PRO very soon. Yes! Finally there’s a high-end solution from ATI to the AGP market. The current AGP king is the Nvidia 7800GS -- but it’s priced from $250-300. The X1950PRO should be much faster than the 7800GS, but the price for the AGP version is still unknown. Anyway, we believe that the X1950PRO AGP will gain a lot of success due to the current generally poor offerings. On another note, we also heard that Nvidia is very unhappy with the latest X1950PRO launch and are already working on a response 7950GS anyone?. Now we are even more confident that Nvidia will make an AGP version of it as well.

I'd be excited, but heck, my 2.8GHz Northwood would bottleneck the hell out of a 1950 AGP.

Here's where I get confused,..Has the total bandwidth of the AGP buss
been reached, with any agp card currently on the market, and if it has then why would I want a new agp card? Question number 2,..I have my new Core2Duo E 6600,my new DDR2 mem.,my new 2x 74gig WD 16MB Raptor's,and a few other new parts for my new system, sitting here on my workbench, the question is this if the agp buss is no where near being fully optimized, then why did eveyone start screaming for pci-e?

I don't thing the AGP bus bandwidth limit has been reached.. but yeah it seems almost any AGP system in general will bottleneck that card. Just the CPU/memory bandwidth, etc.. Maybe not though? Maybe it will be great for just running all kinds of AA and AF, etc.. Will be interesting to see benchmarks on that puppy.

I am guessing it won't be using the same chipset as the PCI-E version. What's this? http://www.hardwareschotte.de/hardwa...C-HV195PGA3-D3

Hello Just Learnin',
![]() first, this is exciting news! ![]() And second, why do you think it won't use the same VPU? I think it will: they just have to add a bridge chip; of course that could mean a little less performance than the original PCI-E version, but still... ![]() Freddy Edit: You found it already!!!

If I was going to purchase an X1950 video card I would definetely get one with PCI-e. The reason is that it could be used in a future upgrade and there isn't much support for AGP anymore, which is only going to get worse with time. Performance of PCI-e is also slightly better than AGP.

If a new card is released the support, IE drivers is there. The difference between performance I have read is 2-5% ? The real question as I see it would be the cost of an upgrade just for the sake of PCI-E or to wait for the DX10 cards and get the Quad Core and DDR2 RAM, mobo etc. at that time to reap the whirlwind. Er...oh yeah don't forget shelling out for that nice new non transferable copy of Vista.

Well actually I did I bought a cheap ass Asrock 775 Dual-VSTA that supports DDR, DDR2, AGP and PCI-e I did this so that I can keep using my old Corsair DDR400 RAM, until the cost of DDR2 RAM drops in price. Got a X800 PCI-e video card that I won't be upgrading until DX10 cards come out. Work will give me Vista for free

Great...
Just when i was having a hard time to decide if i should upgrade or not this comes along. 3 choices:
Keep current system, get 1950 agp, extend life a little longer and save some money... Buy new system based on current hardware Core2Duo/1950XTX/DDR2, spend alot of money, last a while until the time is ready for Vista/DX10 (minor upgrade)... Keep current system, don't do a dang thing, wait for Core2Quadro/DX10/Vista(Ultimate?)/3 GPUs/1500W PSU... ![]() I'm itching to build a new system. E6700 or E6600, X1950XTX, 2GB DDR2, P5W DH Deluxe, VP2330WB or 2407FPW...
