All 8800GTX Cards Being Recalled...

...due to the wrong resistor being installed by a contract manufacturer.

We have received news that all the 8800GTX cards out in the channel are being recalled due to manufacturing defect. We heard it is probably due to a resistor controlling 2D/3D switching and that leads to 3D corruption. However, the defect doesn't affect the 8800GTS cards. This issue probably could delay the launch, if not, there could be no availability of 8800GTX cards at launch but just GTS.
Update #1 : No affect on launch date as yet
Update #2 : NVIDIA will handle the necessary[COLOR=white] hardware[/COLOR] changes (changing of resistors)
Update #3 : Only some 8800GTX cards are affected due to wrong resistor value by a contract manufacturer but to be safe, all the card makers are recalling their cards

I think it's a bit of sensationalism vr-zone calling it recall when the product hasn't even launched yet.

NDA is a bit of a none issue with this card seeing as a quick google will give you all the info you need. A number of people already have there grubby mitts on them and I have the pictures on my other hard-drive. Performance looks pretty good however im still opting for the X1950XTX which should be here anyday. A pair of those or a couple of 7900's still outperform it.

I was at the local Frys Electronic store today and they had sent their entire selection of cards back to Nvidia according to the sales person I spoke with.
On a better note I will pick up my 680i mobo tommorro they do have that in stock.

You're not getting the 8800 to outperform 2 7900's, you're getting it to use directx10.

That sounds strange when nobody else has been reporting this, maybe it was just a bad excuse or due to something else

I understand what your saying but I'll be getting the 8900 or whatever the hell they call the next model to utilise DX10 because by then it'll have been perfected by game and software developers. Long live DX9 heh.

On a curious note if Nvidia carry on with this naming tradition will that make the next cards the 9800??? Be like history repeating but greener

actually, from what i've seen in the eVGA labs, 1 8800GTX is on par with a set of gx2s in SLI (quad SLI essentially). The only advantage that the 8800GTX has is the dx10 support/feature.

i'd much rather have a single 8800GTX over two gx2s simply because of price.....we all know (or at least that the case until they're sold out despite the sudden price drops that they will have) that 1 8800GTX is still cheaper than 2 gx2s
