With IE 7, green means go for legit sites

Starting early next year, the address bar in Internet Explorer 7 will turn green when surfing to a legitimate Web site--but only in some cases, not all.

The colored address bar is designed to be a sign that a specific site can be trusted, giving people the green light to carry out transactions there. It is a weapon in the fight against phishing scams, which use fraudulent Web sites.

Secure site. I guess they are making a database of legal banksites and other places u must use sensitive data. Thats to be sure no-one uses their data on wrong sites. Good idea, really

IE7 address bar goes red at some sites due to fishy security certificate. Some Sites = Google Adsense

I've been using McAfee Siteadviser for Fx (there is also a IE addon) and its great.

The big problem with this is this part of the story (5 paragraphs in, so it didn't make the post):

But the new system adopted for IE 7 has been causing friction, too. Initially, only corporations will be able to get the online trust indicator--a rule that shuts out smaller businesses.
