Intel may slash P4 CPU prices, report says
Source: DigiTimes
_________ Intel may cut prices of its P4 CPUs at the end of next January, with the price reductions possibly being larger than 60%, according to PC OEMs cited by unspecified China-based media quoted by the Chinese-language Commercial Times. The China-based media said Intel will lower prices for P4 series 651, 650, 641, 640, 631, 630, 541 and 531 CPUs on January 21, with those for 650 processors to be reduced by 69% from US$272 to US$84 and the 531 processor, currently priced at US$74, to be cut by 6%, the paper reported. |

If that reaches the component seller channel, then it could be a nice upgrade opportunity for anyone with earlier S775 chipsets, especially with a lower end CPU... A 650 for $84, put me down for one (well actually, put my friend, with a 2.6 GHz 533FSB one down for it, unless I can be bothered pulling my 640 to change it to a 650.
Darn 915 chipset can't even take a P4 dual, never mind a C2D.
