More Micro, Less Soft
Source: Yahoo! News
_______ Steve Ballmer hates it when Microsoft loses. But for the screamingly competitive CEO, there is one single, glaring exception: the 61,100 pounds that have vanished from the bodies of 2,152 Microsoft Corp. employees since 2002. Alas, the eating season is upon us. And with the recent news that mouse jockeys are more supersized than ever, Microsoft and a growing number of companies are on the attack against fat. Two-thirds of Americans are overweight, with the problem adding an average 20% more in costs to company medical claims. Indeed, more than ever before, Cubicle Land is becoming a place of McMansion bodies and big backyards. |

The fact is most people can help being fat, they are just way too damn lazy. It doesn't take much to stay in shape and eat right. It boggles the mind when I'm walking around walmart of the local grocery store and its just a sea of hogs. That does sound kind of a good idea though, because no one should have to be grossly overweight and any incentive to change that should be welcome. Its not profiling either because I'm sure someone is more able to do a job if not over weight. |

Unfortunately it won't work. Companies would get sued out of business if they tried just an outright bonus. What I really would love to see is a BIG cut in health insurance rates, and commensurate increases in rates for those overweight & smokers & drinkers.
I'd be in pretty good shape. Admittedly I have a semi-hyper metabolism, I stay between 9 - 13% body fat wihtout really trying to. But I eat pretty well, I run, paddle, bike, climb and in general am active. I agree with you SFOSOK, I hate going to the mall or a store & seeing 70% of the people are overweight. Particularly I hate seeing fat folks with fat children. The kids are that way because the parently let em be. I have an instant disdain for those people. I guess it all goes into my "The world is going to hell" basket. I realize that a few people may have health problems that results in being overweight, I feel for those folks & that's not the ones I'm talking about. It's the "I eat fast food for dinner 6 days a week, always super size (but I drink diet coke!!), sit on my ass and watch Opra all day" fat asses that I can't stand. Get up, bake some fish, eat a reasonable amount of fruit & veggies and go for a walk in the woods. Its nice out there. *steps off soap box* |

Hell, when I was born I weighed 11lbs.
Though I do have a hyper fast metabolism it is attributed to constant exercise, healthy eating, and eating a lot at different times of the day (like 9 meals a day if I can seperated so that I am pretty much always eating). |
