Established in the US in late 1980s, Tyan Computer has a good reputation as supplier of motherboards for x86-based servers and workstations. The company moved its headquarters to Taiwan in 2002, motivated by a need to consolidate its business development with its manufacturing operations. Since last year, Tyan has been positioning itself as a pioneer of a new computing concept: A personal supercomputer. With its recently launched Typhoon T-600 series, Tyan already has two generations of personal supercomputer products. However, the concept itself is not yet widely known worldwide. DigiTimes.com recently had an opportunity to talk to Tyan CEO Symon Chang about supercomputing and the Typhoon project.
