The delicate workings at the heart of a 2000-year-old analogue computer have been revealed by scientists. The Antikythera Mechanism, discovered more than 100 years ago in a Roman shipwreck, was used by ancient Greeks to display astronomical cycles.

Using advanced imaging techniques, an Anglo-Greek team probed the remaining fragments of the complex geared device.The results, published in the journal Nature, show it could have been used to predict solar and lunar eclipses.

That's just too cool.

I tell you, I was not into history growing up. I simply hated it. With a passion, actually. As I get older I find myself getting more and more interested in ancient studies, and history overall. I actually watch and read anything related to it. Now, if they had taught this kind of history, non-boring history when I was growing up I think things would have been different for me.

Tipstaff, totally agree with you one the history taught in school vs what is actually available.

hell some the history taught in school isn't even acurate.

lol better than anything we got.

i also think it is truly amazing. there is so much we dont know about ancient(&not so ancient) civs - how & why they did the things they did.....
i believe that piece of equipment should be added to the wonders of the ancient world list. i know on most levels it does not compare to the other wonders but when you consider the knowledge & skill that went into it - especially when you consider the tools & materials used- & its multiple uses - it is multicore
