Ancient Moon 'computer' revisited
Read More/Source: BBC News
_______________ The delicate workings at the heart of a 2000-year-old analogue computer have been revealed by scientists. The Antikythera Mechanism, discovered more than 100 years ago in a Roman shipwreck, was used by ancient Greeks to display astronomical cycles. Using advanced imaging techniques, an Anglo-Greek team probed the remaining fragments of the complex geared device. The results, published in the journal Nature, show it could have been used to predict solar and lunar eclipses. |

If only civilization hadn't collapsed about 2000 years ago!

That's just too cool.
I tell you, I was not into history growing up. I simply hated it. With a passion, actually. As I get older I find myself getting more and more interested in ancient studies, and history overall. I actually watch and read anything related to it. Now, if they had taught this kind of history, non-boring history when I was growing up I think things would have been different for me. Thanks for the read, MIG. This is just a great piece of history to read about. |

lol better than anything we got.
i also think it is truly amazing. there is so much we dont know about ancient(¬ so ancient) civs - how & why they did the things they did..... i believe that piece of equipment should be added to the wonders of the ancient world list. i know on most levels it does not compare to the other wonders but when you consider the knowledge & skill that went into it - especially when you consider the tools & materials used- & its multiple uses - it is multicore !
