Dell Donates PCs To Military Families

Source: Yahoo! News
________
Dell has donated 200 computers to the families of soldiers being deployed to Iraq out of Fort Hood in Texas.

For the past two years, the computer maker has teamed up with Operation Homelink, which provides refurbished computers to the spouses or parents of junior-level enlisted service men and women who have been deployed overseas. Dell spokesman Dean Kline, said he estimates the company has given more than 500 computers to military families since 2004. He noted that the latest donation, announced Thursday, in that time, was the company's largest to date.

Most of the donated systems were refurbished Optiplex desktops with mini towers.

Master Shake is on a distinguished road

That's really nice of Dell, but I think that members of the military should make more than enough to afford a decent PC. They're trained to do all kinds of crazy shit, even killing people. I think they deserve to make enough to get a computer when the equipment they carry with them every day probably costs a few times more than it would cost to get one!

Zeph is an unknown quantity at this point

You'd be surprised how little pay the lower ranks get per month. In many cases, it's not enough to live on if they're out on their own. During that time, they're typically living on-base and using military resources, such as a bunk, water, and food to survive. If they have a family to take care of, that doesn't really help.

its enough to live off of, they also pay for housing when your living off base and still enlisted. I'm sure anything free to them is always nice.
