Sound Blaster X-Fi Issues Explored @ NGOHQ
Read More/Source: NGOHQ
_______________ Back in May, we published an article and report about many issues reported on the latest Creative Labs product – The Sound Blaster X-Fi. A few weeks later Creative released information and blamed DDR Dual Channel for these related issues. And, after a few months, they changed their version and blamed Nvidia’s nForce4 for these issues, instead. Nvidia never responded to us about their side in the story, but they denied it on a chat. |

Ironically the only time I ever had an issue with sound or installation of a creative card was on gentoo linux. Every other time it worked flawlessly, in fact I am running an x-fi platinum as we speak.

Their drivers has always sucked, to bad, because the x-fi hardware seems to be pretty decent.

This guy sounds like he wants to get an X Fi card but can't afford it and is mean because of it.
I am not saying that there is no noise problem that he is talking about, I just haven't experienced any at any time, from day 1 (last December) till today. With cd drivers and 1-2 versions (don't remember now) after that. I use a motherboard with the ATI's Xpress 200 too. I haven't experienced any problems with the card, noise or cpu utilization. Also as far as I know I do have SPDIF output, though I could be wrong since I have never used them. Now, bare in mind that I am not a fan of Creative, I don't really like them, too many issues with my Live card and with my GeForce 256 DDR, back in the day. It took me a lot of search last year to get this card (X-Fi gamer fatality or whatever), since at the time was the best for a gamer as I could see it. Including, what he complains about, using too many cpu cycles. Has he tried the other soundcards to check how many more they use? This guy sounds like he loves to whine about it. Or perhaps he is just unlucky. Regarding Creative's support. If you are going to try to get help through the forums, by Craetive's personel, then good luck. I had a problem when I first got the card, a cable was not working properly, and in a couple of emails the problem was solved by them. Polite and actualy sounded like they know what they are talking about (wish I could say the same for some game companies).

You know, I've been listening to this stuff for years - and using onboard sound as some of you all are aware. I'm still planning on building my first new rig in the past six years in March-May or so, and will be sticking with ADI onboard audio or getting a dedicated Envy based recording card unless...
It's a real shame that Creative has got some truly outstanding hardware on their X-Fi cards with studio quality specs, yet, the software/drivers have this reputation for causing odd problems and interactions with other software - bummer...
