Z check out the carbon nanotube capacitors for up and coming battery technology that could change the way we power mobile devices. They lined a traditional capacitor with nanotubes to give it a crazy amount of surface area. More surface area means more charge stored. The greatest thing is, they will charge as fast as the electricity can fill them because there's no chemical reactions. It was a pretty big thing last year and they expect consumer applications in 5 years last time I checked.
As for the iphone... I'm in the meh camp. I simply don't trust apple to make a sturdy product. My experience with the company on a whole is that they are good at design and marketing, but not much else. I could give you a list of apple products I considered purchasing and then one deal-breaker that kept me from making the buy. It looks nice, it's going to be super easy to market, and it definitely is useable. That's what apple does. But, imagination time, put one of these things in your pocket. For what you just spent, do you feel safe with that huge screen? Can you even protect it and still have the touch technology work perfectly? It may mean some sort of carrying case. Goodbye sleek design and easy accessibility. The battery life concern is the other big one of mine, but it's already been covered in this thread. Finally, don't keep witchhunter locked out forever, he's cool most of the time.

they need kinetically rechargeable batteries.....if seiko can make watches that charge just from you moving your hand around...why not a phone that charges as you bob it up and down on your belt?
As for the phone...no keypad...thus...no ability to type anything but numbers worth a damn. Also..."retail" of $599 means it'll be about $250 with a 2 year plan guys...my blackjack retails at $549...I paid $199 and signed my soul over for 2 years. As tempted as I am to try one of these, my 30 day return window will be up before these hit shelves. As for battery life....they'd best take a page from samsung's book and include 2 batteries and a standalone charger to charge the spare while your using the other [how the blackjack works..it sucks down a battery in about 7 hours if you use push email service]. I personally see this as a flop fo a product as, from what I can tell..it's the first phone in about 5 years to not have a camera. Also, some of it's "features" have plagued prior products I've had, and are nothign new: Ambient light sensor: the RAZR has one to determine when the keypad should light up, and it has a heart attack if you are near anything that flashes, like a police siren, and eventually just freaks out and gives up until you restart the phone. [and also..as a sensor..it's always on...eating battery] Accellerometer: It will probably go off if you drop it or lift it too quickly, and, like most hardwired sensors in such things, can't be turned off without a firmware/SEEM/flex/Registry/whatever OSX calls it hack. Thus...eating battery while it sits still "waiting for you to flip it" Touchscreens [the good ones] run off thermal recognition in conjunction with pressure...thus...there's another sensor...always on...eating your damned battery. I'm with everyone else on here..it'll suck down a battery in the time it takes to listen to a CD and call your friend to tell them how cool it is...also..it will run iTunes for it's PC connectivity.....which means your going to be marred by a plethora of DRM/FairPlay restrictions, even on your own music/pictures [atleast windows mobile phones can turn off activesync and run in UMD mode]. To recap: it will suck down batteries, it will wear out quickly, it will smudge/smear/get ugly, and being new and expensive, cingular won't offer replacement insurance on it. And lastly, let's not forget how well the last iTunes phone went over [like a lead brick] |

as for the battery issue...I've stuck with Sony Ericsson phones fairly exclusively. I venture out to different phones sometimes and end up being really disappointed, but let me tell you these SEs do well. I had a Z520 and as long as you didn't use the camera or internet, the battery lasted for several days. If I shut it off at night I could get through an entire week. My T616 did about 4 days. My w810i does 5 days, but the camera and mp3 player kill it...plus I did some mods to the antenna so its different now (probably only lasts 4 days now but it works in the 2nd basement of the UW parking garage so I'm NOT disappointed).
