HP nanotechnology bids to outpace Moore's Law

Researchers at HP have turned to nanotechnology to achieve an eight-fold increase in chip density. The development could extend the life of current chipmaking technologies, the company has claimed.

The advance by HP could prove to be significant in an area of technology - nanotechnology - that has to date been long on promises and short on near-term, real-world applications.

Commercial applications of HP's research could potentially be used not too far in the future in its own line of computer printers, in other consumer electronics areas, and throughout the chip industry at large, HP said.
