Athlon XP Processor Identifier

A couple of days ago I posted the Athlon XP Processor Identifier Tool, which basically will tell you what AMD based Athlon XP processor you have! but did you know: Your AMD Athlon XP Processor May Really Be Faster Than You Think it Is.

Well the guy's at Xbitlabs have a new take on this:

Our friends from a well-known OverClockers.ru web-site have found out that a site with a bloody name Bloodys.com offers its visitors this script for revealing all the information about Athlon XP CPU. Among all the technical data about the microprocessor, the script also tells you if your microprocessor was “downgraded” from a faster chip! Apparently, there are digits in the marking of AMD Athlon XP “Thorougbred” CPUs that describe the speed this particular CPU was designed to work at but was later “downgraded” or maybe even “upgraded” in certain cases. Take a look at the example of how the Athlon XP “Thoroughbred” processors are marked:

The owner of the web-site explains that “downgraded” in this case means that the CPU was not able to maintain full stability at the given rating with default voltage, so it was remarked to a lower model number. For example, 1700+ downgraded from 2400+ means that this CPU cannot work at 2400+ with core voltage 1.6V, but it can probably hit this and maybe even higher frequencies with voltage increase.

I can't tell from the artical if this applies to palominos at all, or if it JUST the T-breds.

Why are you buying a Palimino when you can get a T-bred for the same price?

That's what I was thinking- I wonder if he knows the difference between a tbred-a and a tbred-b? I think he could get a tbred-b somewhere for pretty good deal- I remember a link to a site where they were selling them guaranteed to be a tbred-b for 60 dollars, but I erased it and don't remember where it was.

from TigerDirect? Looks like one of their part numbers...heh. If so your probably going to get a "B" due to the sheer volume of processors they sell. I would not place a whole lot of faith in those results though. I have already confirmed that part of that info is not correct. When I enter my numbers, default Vcore is reported as 1.6V with an AXDA1700DUT3C and that is not correct. Default Vcore is 1.5V for that processor, and is confirmed by the fact that MSI limits you to +.2 over on Vcore and this one maxes at 1.7V and will allow no more. My older Pally would up to where the board maxed at 1.85V. Now according to the script, mine is a TBred "B", but I wasn't aware that there were any TBred "B" cores that ran on 1.5V. Can anyone confirm that there are "B" version cores that ran on 1.5V or are they all 1.6V? Now this is the big one...heh.

According to the script, the line 9279916251118 means this processor is a down graded 2500+, which is not possible. Did they somehow disable the other 256K L2 on this chip, cause mine only has 256. So this thing went from 166FSB and 512K L2, down to 133FSB and 256K L2. Was there ever a 133FSB 256K L2 version of the 2500+ that I am not aware of? If not, thats one hell of a costly downgrade! I kind of doubt that, but I guess anything is possible. Like I said, don't put alot of faith in those results. This thing does run at 1907Mhz at 1.7 volts 24/7 very stable and will hit 2.0Ghz, but not stable at the same voltage. Good luck.

Well I hope they fix the script if it is showing incorrect info. I want it to show the right info on my processor when it comes.
