'Windows' is dead, long live Windows. Windows XP, the current dominant operating system, has met its successor. Vista will launch its bid to conquer PCs worldwide under the Microsoft banner starting on January 30. Millions of XP users will supposedly be convinced to make the switch. That may be more difficult than advertised, since there are few compelling reasons for an immediate changeover.

Maximum PC just put out an article on the 10 reasons you dont need to switch immediately.I'm gonna wait at least a year,hopefully prices will drop also.

guys, dual boot. then by the time you move over totally you know all the ins and outs......

Since I'm planing to do upgrade in this year I might do that. If I have the extra money.

Gonna hold out untill the Directx10 cards are affordable or when theres actually some games worth upgrading for. I dont really see any other reason for upgrading to vista to be honest.

Does Microsoft ever drop the prices of their Operating Systems? I wasn't aware they had ever done that in recent memory.

Usually the price will come down after awhile but not very significant...
I wait for another half a year to a year

How much space is required for a normal Vista installation? As it is now, after 1 year, XP is at 5GBs on my PC, should I expect double that amount?

Triple. I'm pretty sure it's 15 GB required

I didn't check after i'd installed, but my installation is currently at 16gb, that's with Office, Photoshop CS2/CS3 Beta, DreamWeaver/Flash and all my other little apps, AV Winzip, WinRAR WinDVD, Nero etc.

The windows folder itself is 8.3GB
